Has anybody ridden on an Amtrak 7 Empire Builder train (or others)?

I have never been on a train before. I am going on one for the first time in a couple weeks. (I am super excited because I have always dreamed of ridding on a train!
So, typically, while on a train, what are the rules? Are you aloud to wonder around or do you have to sit in the spot reserved for you? Are there plug-ins where one can plug in laptops, phone cords, ext?
What does it look like? What is it like?
What’s the worst part about it?

Any info would help ;D

Empire Builder is a beautiful trip. I’ve been twice. You will be in two-level Superliners. It’s random if you will have plugs, take a long extension cord as sometimes they are every other seat or in the Cafe/Lounge. There are no showers for coach class. Take plenty of healthy snacks like pretzels, nuts, crackers, peanut butter, etc. If you load up on junk you’ll feel lousy with nowhere to go. Take plenty of water — there’s no restrictions on liquids like on a plane. Take a pillow if you are in coach. They give you a little one, but I’ve never been able to sleep on it.

Rules on the train: no drugs, no smoking, don’t be too loud. Wander around all you like except you can’t go to the sleeper cars. The train will stop many times. The car attendant and the announcements will tell you if they are smoking stops. If they are longer stops, get out and wander around the train. DON’T go too far — as the conductor said at Minot (Why Not Minot? is their motto) “if you miss the train, there will be another one tomorrow.” You will probably find people to talk to in the Cafe car and the Lounge anytime, or the dining car during mealtimes.

In the summer, they usually have volunteers or rangers board the train for talks and demonstrations. The route follows the Lewis and Clark Trail for much of the northern part and the volunteers point out the route. (They taught my nephew how to make a fire with a flint and steel — kind of odd thing to do on a train, I thought. They also had beaver pelts and a Native American in full dress.)
